SCRIPTURE

“A Mighty Fortress is Our God” is based on Psalm 46. This song is one of Christianity’s most enduring and endearing hymns. Ann has taken the words and fashioned them in the shape of a cross.

BACKGROUND

Martin Luther, the German Christian reformer, wrote “A Mighty Fortress is Our God” in A.D. 1529 amid great worldwide persecution of Protestants. The words are a paraphrase of Psalm 46 and have been translated into English more than 70 times.

WORDS

“Did we in our own strength confide, our striving would be losing; were not the right Man on our side, the Man of God’s own choosing: dost ask Who that may be? Christ Jesus it is He; Lord Sabaoth, His name, from age to age the same, and He must win the battle.”
