“Oh Holy Night” is one of the world’s most beloved Christmas hymns. This design centers on just one of the verses. “He appeared” is central to the design.
The Christmas song we know today as “Oh Holy Night” is based on a French poem written by Placide Cappeau in 1847. Adolphe Charles Adam wrote the music. In 1855, John Sullivan Dwight, a Unitarian Minister translated the words into English.
“Long lay the world in sin and error pining till He appeared and the soul felt its worth. A thrill of hope the weary world rejoices. Christ is the Lord oh praise his name forever. Let all within us praise His holy name. His power and glory evermore proclaim. Oh holy night. Oh night divine.” His name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The Mighty God, The Everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. Isaiah 9:6
